How to be a Savvy Shopper

How to be a Savvy Shopper

I get this question so much from my girlfriends, how to be a savvy shopper? What is a savvy shopper? Luxury on a budget.

How do I buy so many items at discounted prices? My style looks expensive, but it really is budget friendly. Today I am going talk to you about a few guidelines I always use when buying clothes, shoes, jewelry etc… You can use these tips for a lot of other purchase types too (furniture, home décor, makeup, etc…)

1. Shop online
A lot of people are surprised by this, but 90% of my shopping is online. Online stores have the best deals. Sometimes online websites run 50% off specials online (i.e. Loft) and there is usually a larger selection with department stores online rather than in store, and you can easily “shop around”.

Make sure to always check the return policy when shopping online, as you are more likely to return the item without seeing it or trying it on first.

Below are some of my favorite places to shop online:
Macy’s
Old Navy
Target
Nordstrom

2. Never buy anything at full price
Always use coupons & wait for sales. This is a lesson I learned when I used to watch Suzie Orman. She said every single thing you buy should be at the sale price and this has helped me save so much money.

Macy’s always has sales, and I will always wait for a sale vs. buying it at full price. Holiday sales are really great too. I also use this mentality for other purchases such as home furniture and even buying a car. Everything always at the sale price!

In addition to sales, utilizing coupons is also great; you can find them online before buying a product. And don’t ignore the coupons that come through the mail either. Great ways to save on everyday items as well.

Amazon is also a great resource, I find makeup, cell phone cases and buy used books here (or order books from the library).

Coupon resources:
www.amazon.com
www.retailmenot.com
www.groupon.com
www.livingsocial.com

3. Shop outlets
I don’t utilize this enough, but shopping at Nordstrom Rack, Marshalls, Banana Republic outlet stores, etc…gets you the same style and brand but at a budget friendly price.

I love that Marshall has name brand handbags for 50% the original price and Nordstrom rack has great wear to work dresses for such amazing prices (the other day I saw Calvin Klein dresses for $30). I don’t live as close to a huge outlet shopping center as I would like, but when I do go, I feel like I won the jackpot. If you can utilize this, it is great! Also, some factory / outlet stores also have websites and you can purchase these items online without having to go to a store. Remember to check the return policy!

4. Budget friendly stores
H&M, Zara, Forever21
These are my favorite. These are my go to when I want to wear whatever is trendy & hip but I do not want to spend a lot of money. I also love the jewelry, handbag, & sunglasses from these stores. They are really great for shopping the latest trend at a low price.
